Welcome

My name is Branko Šupica, tour guide for the Croatian coast- and hillside. I speak Croatian, English and Dutch. On this website I would like to present myself and some of the unique tours I have created.

I was born in Croatia (1968) in Blata village, 20 km from the famous Croatian national park Plitvice Lakes. I grew up under very different political, economical and social circumstances then the ones now. I have seen and experienced both systems, in a good and a bad sense. In 1991., because of the raging civil war, I was forced to flee the country and I have settled as a refugee in the Netherlands, where I had a great opportunity to learn a new language (Dutch) and to experience the western way of living. And to survive.
Yet, after 12 years in exile, we (my family and I) decided to move on and go back to our roots, to Croatia. It has been a brave and maybe stupid move, but I don't regret it. I am in love with this beautiful country and the whole Balkan region. It's rich history, profound spirituality, complex society and mystical energy have been a source of inspiration for all of my work and life.

After the initial years of finding our place in what has become a totally different society, in 2006 we have started an International ceramics centre Atelier Janja Gora, a place of tolerance and art. Parallel with that I began working as a tour guide, especially for the tourists coming from the Netherlands. While I was working for different tour operators I had a good chance to learn about and see a lot of my county. I guide most of the famous destinations in Croatia, like Istria, Islands, Opatija, Plitvice Lakes. While guiding I realized that much more could be offered and that great parts of the country, especially less known and touristicly unexposed destinations, have been overlooked; like surroundings of the Plitvice Lakes. Even though the lakes get over a million visitors a year, most of them never go any further into the direct surrounding areas of the lakes, where lots of great things are to be seen and done. So I decided to present these somewhat forgotten parts of the country. Parts that have had a harsh past with many wars including the latest war in Croatia which took place in the 90's. Part that deserve to be presented.

My tours present the places near the Plitvice lakes. Places like pottery centre, traditional crafts, fairytale museum, home grown and made food and drinks, hiking trails, mountaineering paths, cave park, walks along old forests and springs of drinkable water, historical sights, horse riding, rafting, cycling...

If you are visiting Croatia and Plitvice lakes and are concidering seeing more of this area, contact me to guide you around.
